Scottsdale Bible, one of the community’s largest churches, has begun a $17.5 million rebuild of the 34-year-old campus, one that officials hope will entice even more people to its grounds, at Shea Boulevard and Miller Road.

Kitchell broke ground on the church on Oct. 13. Trees and other plants are being moved, and construction is expected to get under way first on a new chapel on the northwestern corner of the site.

Demolition of one of the site’s student buildings also is likely to start. Both things will happen the week of Nov. 18, barring unexpected holdups.
